Skills Development Activity: Prudent Use of Social Media

• Encourage students to see social media as a mere tool at the service of friendship, and not as a substitution for real personal relationships.

• Show students that while the Internet can be a useful tool for learning, it is a medium that lends itself to superficiality and distraction. It can only answer a certain set of questions, and is not a replacement for the reflective and critical thought in which we must all engage.

• Provide students with helpful “best practices” for the healthy use of the Internet and Social Media.

Virtue Talk: Perseverance

• Help students make the connection between perseverance and accomplishing their goals.

• Illustrate, by means of examples, the significant role played by perseverance in the history of politics, business, science, and the arts.
